Who we are

State of Health operates the thestateofhealth.com website and the State of Health iOS app, which provides fitness tracking tools: workout logging, nutrition and macro tracking with AI meal estimates, GPS run tracking, and body-weight tracking.

This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you use our website or app, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work, we use it to provide and improve the service, and we never sell it or share it except as described below.

Information we collect

Account information
Your email address and a password, collected when you sign up in the app. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your plain-text password. This information is used to identify you and secure your account.
Fitness data you log
Workouts, exercises, sets, weights and reps; runs, including distance, time, pace and the GPS route; body-weight entries; and the targets you set (daily calories, workouts per week, step goal, goal weight). This is stored in your account so it syncs across sessions and devices.
Nutrition data
The foods and meals you log, plus any meal descriptions, voice-dictated text, or photos you choose to submit for AI calorie estimation, and the resulting estimates.
Apple Health steps (on your device)
With your permission, the app reads your daily step count from Apple Health to show your activity and estimate calorie burn. Steps are processed on your device. The app never writes anything to Apple Health.
Device & crash data
Basic device information and crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics, used solely to find and fix bugs. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

How AI food logging works

When you type, dictate, or photograph a meal, that content is sent to our AI provider for the sole purpose of producing a calorie and macro estimate. Meal photos are never stored on our servers; only the resulting estimate is saved to your log. Your content is not shared with anyone else and we do not use it to train AI models. Estimates are approximations to help you track, not medical, health, or dietary advice.

Location and runs

Run tracking uses your device's location only while you record a run, and only with your permission. Your routes are stored in your account so you can review your runs; they are never shared or used for any other purpose. You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.

Sharing of personal information

We will never sell, distribute, or exchange your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that run the app on our behalf: cloud hosting for your synced data, Google Firebase for authentication and crash reporting, and our AI provider for meal estimates. Each processes your data only to provide the service. We may disclose information if required to do so by law.

Cookies

thestateofhealth.com does not use cookies, analytics, or trackers of any kind. It is a static informational site.

Security and retention

Your data is encrypted in transit, and we use commercially acceptable means to protect it. That said, no method of transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We keep your data for as long as your account exists.

Your choices

Delete: remove your account and all logged data from inside the app (Account → Delete Account), no email required.
Export: request a copy of your data anytime by emailing us.
Permissions: camera, microphone, location, and Apple Health access are all optional and can be revoked in iOS Settings at any time.

Our service may contain links to other sites, such as the App Store. These external sites are not operated by us, and we have no control over and assume no responsibility for their content, privacy policies, or practices. We advise you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take the necessary action.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page and are effective when posted, so we advise you to review it periodically. For material changes, we will also notify you in the app.
